Lukula, Democratic Republic of the Congo

August 6-16, 2016

What I Will Be Doing

Our volunteers will be offering medical clinics, health education classes and community service projects for the area. We will be working with local physicians to provide primary healthcare for all ages. The health education classes will cover general hygiene, disease prevention, infant care, CPR and First-Aid training. The classes will be open to the public and health officials in the area. We are not completely set in details for community service. No matter where we end up, we are always excited to be helping out.

We are excited to go work somewhere we haven’t been before. Being able to help the lives of others and improve their community’s well being is something we’re really looking forward to.

A Little About Pierrette Pfingu

I am an international student from the D.R.Congo living in the United States. I am interested in volunteering with Global First Responder because I am passionate about relief work and improving human condition globally. The trip to Lukula in the D.R.Congo is a project that I feel a deep connection to because I had the opportunity to visit the General Hospital of Lukula with my family last year and I was touched by the strong will of the hospital staff to help their patients considering the lack of adequate medical equipment faced by the hospital. I want to be part of Global First Responder’s initiative to install solar system and donate an incinerator to the hospital in Lukula because it will make a huge different and save lives of many. I will bring my contribution to the project by volunteering as one of the interpreters to facilitate communication between Global First Responder volunteers and Lukula hospital staff.
